SLC Arts Call For Artwork: “Sincerely Yours” Thank You Card Exhibition
SLC Arts invites artists to submit artwork for their 2024 Town Hall exhibit, "Sincerely Yours!” This exhibition celebrates the power of gratitude and the timeless tradition of showing appreciation with a thank-you card.
We are asking for submissions of handmade cards inspired by the recognition of the profound impact others have in each of our lives. The submission deadline is Saturday, May 11th, 11:59 pm. Please submit online through https://slcartscouncil.org/exhibits/
This exhibit is curated by Sharon H.J. Cheng, an artist working with SLC Arts through the Creatives Rebuild New York grant program. Sharon has put together a series of Town Hall exhibits with the intention of offering a more accessible exhibit series for our creative community.
For this exhibition you can use various presentation styles depending on how the cards are executed or intended to be presented to express the idea of gratitude. You can use colors, symbols, or other means to create your unique artwork. The cards can be a postcard format, folded or unfolded , with or without text, with frontside design only or with both sides design. The size requirement is - no larger than 8 1/2” x 11”, which can fit into a clear Sheet Protector to display double-side cards. The cards can also framed by artists. There is no jury fee required for this exhibit.
The opening reception for this exhibit will be held on Thursday, May 23rd at 5pm at the Potsdam Town Hall. Attendance is not mandatory but strongly encouraged. Creative Spirit Volunteer Store Associate
Up to 30 hours available weekly
This unpaid volunteer position is available to anyone interested in serving their community, spending time engaged in the arts, or looking to gain experience in a retail setting. Volunteer hours are on-site but can be flexible enough to be worked around a job or class schedule. Availability for 4-6 hour time blocks is preferred. Internship credit may be available to eligible students upon advance request.
Description: The Creative Spirit Volunteer Store Associate will assist the SLC Arts staff with tasks revolving around the store and programs. Our volunteers are an essential component of running daily operations and allow staff to continue applying focus on our organizational growth and development. Projects and duties may include:
- Store: enter new inventory into Shopify Point of Sale (POS) system, accurately barcode artwork, greet customers and handle sales, maintain general store cleanliness, and answering the phone
- Display: arrange store and window displays, switch displays monthly to have a fresh store appearance, and prepare space for new inventory arrivals
- Programs: assist in preparation and clean up for community programs
- Marketing: distribute marketing materials and fliers around town, update chalk sign
Successful applicants will be comfortable using an iPad, handling cash and card transactions, communicating clearly in person and on the phone, and demonstrate a professional and welcoming attitude. Retail experience is not required, and ample training will be available. SLC Arts Call for Artists - 2023 Solo Exhibition Opportunity
Ogdensburg International Airport
About
SLC Arts is accepting submissions for their second series of solo exhibition shows held at the Ogdensburg International Airport in 2024. Each show will feature an individual artist and will provide the opportunity to exhibit their work in the North Country. The deadline for submission is Sunday, October 22, 2023.
Through a juried process, artists will be selected for up to one of the six available solo exhibitions throughout 2024. Accepted artists will have their work on display for two months in a seated waiting area inside the airport. Artists may submit for multiple show dates, but selection is limited to one show per artist.
There is a jury fee of $30. All sales will be handled by the artist with no commission to SLC Arts. Artists will be asked to provide their own installation materials and labels, and will be responsible for installing and taking down their artwork within the dates provided by SLC Arts.

Eligibility
- Artists must be a resident of St. Lawrence County
- Artists have sole discretion in choosing final work to exhibit
- Work of any medium or theme can be exhibited
- Artwork must be original work created by the artist
- Artists must not have had a solo exhibition through SLC Arts within the last 12 months
- Artists must provide installation hardware, wire, fishing line, specialty mounts, or any materials required to hang artwork from the gallery railing
- Artists must provide all work suitably presented and ready to install
- Artists are responsible for installing work during the timeframe provided by SLC Arts in coordination with the Airport. SLC Arts may offer assistance with installation if notified and coordinated in advance
- Artists are responsible for handling any sales of artwork in their solo show
- Artists will have sole use of the gallery space for the assigned solo show

SLC Arts plans to expand their educational programs in 2023, offering more class workshops, developing longer-session classes, and creating new opportunities for our community to engage and strengthen their creative skills. As a part of their new, accessible pricing model for classes, the organization has set a standard Guest Instructor rate at $30 per instructional hour, and SLC Arts will purchase all required materials.
We want to hear what ideas our community has for teaching a class, workshop, or hosting a demonstration. Proposals may include a class you have taught before, or a new class idea. If you have more than one class proposal, please fill out an additional submission form per proposal or contact lacy@slcartscouncil.org.
Please note, submitting a class proposal does not automatically guarantee that class will be selected to schedule. If your proposal is accepted, our Arts Center Manager will reach out to coordinate plans and scheduling. Please be prepared to submit a completed W9 form and sign a SLC Arts Guest Instructor Letter of Agreement upon request.
For the purpose of creating small workshop groups, please fill out this form. Everyone is welcome, and no one will be turned away. We will create groups will similar goals and interests. Please submit up to two pages of work samples in your genre.
This unpaid internship is intended to result in academic credits earned towards a degree through a partnership with the applicant's college or university. Applicants should speak with their academic advisor about the process for registering for an internship through their college or university. Internship hours are onsite but can be flexible enough to be worked in around a job or class schedule. Some nights and weekends may be required. Students may work anywhere between 8 and 32 hours per week for this internship.
Description: The intern will assist the Executive Director with program and event planning and implementation for the current and upcoming seasons. The primary objective of the internship is to complement the student's academic studies with professional work experience, and SLC Arts is committed to our interns' intellectual and cultural development.
Successful applicants will be comfortable using computers for a wide range of tasks and writing for a public audience, communicate clearly in person and through email, and demonstrate consistently professional conduct in on-line interactions including utilizing social media etiquette. Basic spreadsheet experience required.

SLC Arts accepts nominations (including self-nominations) for art jurors who are willing to volunteer for a one-time task.
If selected, art jurors will be asked to evaluate and rate images of two- and three-dimensional artwork by regional artists submitted for consideration to SLC Arts.
Potential jurors should:
- be arts professionals or have a broad understanding of the arts in general (for example, a knowledge of 2D & 3D visual art forms; a working artist with experience participating in shows; experience with community based visual art and cultural diversity);
- have the ability to evaluate other people's work and make comparisons;
- be able to articulate their opinions and be open to the ideas of others; and
- have experience in group decision making.

Each year the St. Lawrence County Arts Council recognizes someone in the North Country for their dedicated service to the Arts in our region.
These individuals don't have to be artists themselves, but their passion, devotion, and work may have made the North Country a better place for artists to live, work, and create.
